Herman Hoehn was raised in Canada on the farm. As he grew, hard work filled his days and reading his every other waking moment. As a young man he enrolled as a Theology Major in Canadian Junior College. Doing colporteur work in the summer; as he studied he began to see contradictions in the Spirit of Prophecy books that had been printed. This concerned and puzzled him for he reasoned: “How can I be solid in the faith when there are so many contradictions in the Spirit of Prophecy?” At length he break his mind to an old Professor at the College, who kindly told him that the books coming off of the press were not the original writings of Sister White, but that there had been a committee of 5 put together in 1883, after James Whites death to compile and change the Spirit of Prophecy to keep up with the growing changes in the church. Hoehn was shocked and upon pressing the Professor obtained proof by the professor lending him his library of old original Spirit of Prophecy books. Hoehn stayed up night after night hand writing his own copies of those precious manuscripts. Then commenced to compare the new with the old and found the Professor to be correct. In bringing these things up in his classes he quickly lost all the respect of his teachers, and soon lost all privileges of speaking up in classes or reading the original Spirit of Prophecy writings to the class to bring out the truths that we being obliterated and torn down by the teachers. He was told that if he did not cease his notions and come into line, they would not let him graduate and become a pastor. So he quite the College and went on with life. Married, had a family and worked hard! But God was not finished with him yet, and stopped him short with a broken back that put him in bed. There he got out the books and his original hand written manuscripts and began to pour over them. He spoke with many people, and began collecting signatures from hundreds of people so that he could “Prompt, persuade-Etc… the White Estate to give God’s people the original writings.
He spent years writing letters, calling, pleading with them to release the originals- ALL TO NO AVAIL! UNTIL Questions on Doctrines was released in 1957. Then the two Evangelical men, Barnhouse and Martin put out the news that they had been in the White Estate and seen everything that Ellen White had written. Hoehn was simply livid! He drove to the White Estate and nailing the caretaker against the wall said: “You let the Fox in the Henhouse and you won’t let the chickens in here! How could you let those pork eating, Eternal burning hell Priests in this place with these precious writings? You get the originals out to the people NOW!!!” And so in the 1960s Arthur White began to publish the Review and Herald articles, Signs of the times and a few of the other original writings along with explanatory books such as Spirit of Prophecy Treasure chest, and Ellen White- Messenger to the Remnant.
This site contains the writings of Hoehn through the years. Unedited- they are powerful and strong messages filled with references that can be looked up to prove his points. With 50+ years of deep research in the Spirit of Prophecy this man was quick to see the snakes in the grass and call error what it truly is. Many of the names and addresses of folks in these papers are no longer valid as many of them have died. Hoehn died in Grand Forks B.C. Canada in 2000. Anna DeMichael Hoehn carried on the work until her death in March of 2011. At the age of 90 years, she too sleeps in Jesus having never seen the finishing of the work as she so much longed to see.
